In 1B we went over "Self-Reliance" and the Transcendental definition activity. After that, we paraphrased topic sentences from "Civil Disobedience." We made a list of items Thoreau brought into the woods, and items we would've brought, and we categorized them. I'm curious to see what other classes come up with as essentials for two years in the woods. The book/movie Into the Wild would go well w/this unit.
I'm doing the blog bc so many people are job-shadowing.... Happy Tgiving!

Today in class we did a lot of group work, including going over vocab words, reviewing the story "Self-Reliance", and learning more about Transcendentalism. It was a very productive day.

Objectives: practice filling in the poetry template; intro Emerson; paraphrase and summarize "Nature" (388 - 390)
Activities: vocab cubes; video; reading; "The Last Word" paraphrase
HW: read "Self-Reliance" (391 - 392)
I'll do the blog as we needed every minute to get through 1B today. Transcendentalism is very challenging but I think people can get a handle on it by the end of reading Emerson and Thoreau. I have been marking the state assessment essays, and want time to discuss those w/you, too.

I think class went well today. Everyone was quiet and on task. I worked on my book project for the next six weeks and got a lot accomplished.

Activities: six-trait rubric or typing assessment
HWK:
I'll do the blog for a couple of periods while some students take the assessment. With volleyball, FCCLA, and math testing, no one is in the same place in Comm III. Some of you are taking the assessment on 11/5 - 11/6. Others will turn in a typed copy for comments, do the six-trait worksheet, then take the test on 11/11 -11/12. I'll be happy to have this behind us!
